Captain Picard sings the Alphabet Song

Saturday, May 9, 2009

Sure, we're all seriously geeking out over the new Star Trek movie and the return of classic Trek icons Kirk and Spock. But the new movie is something of a mixed blessing. After all, this reboot means we've probably seen the last of Next Generation-era Trek. No more Borg. No more Worf growling. No more Riker and Troi getting all flirty. No more Barclay cameos all over the place. No more Data. (Sure, he died in Nemesis, but his death was so half-assed we never really thought it'd stick.) And, worst of all, no more Jean Luc Picard! Nevermore shall he sip Earl Gray Tea in his ready room.

It's ironic that the Next Generation characters are now being replaced by the very characters that they replaced back in 1987. As tired as Trek was starting to feel by Insurrection and Nemesis, Picard and company gave us decades of fun, thought-provoking TV and movie sci-fi. So let's let's look back with a smile, and enjoy this little video of Jean Luc Picard in an uncharacteristically musical moment.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
