Fillion says Whedon is writing DR. HORRIBLE songs
Thursday, November 5, 2009
It seems Joss Whedon and company really are going ahead with a Dr. Horrible sequel, and Nathan Fillion (Captain Hammer himself) says it's gotten far enough that the sequel already has a title and a couple of new songs.
Interestingly, Fillion said that a "bunch" of cast members would be interested in returning. Other than Dr. Horrible, Captain Hammer and Moist, who is left? Is Penny going to be resurrected somehow? Will we see a larger role for Bad Horse? He also says that the "media" has not been decided, lending credence to rumors that the project could be a theatrical film or Broadway show.
I've written before about my ambivalence regarding a Dr. Horrible follow-up. The original worked a lot better than it should have, but it felt pretty complete and I have a hard time imagining how a sequel could work. Billy has become Dr. Horrible, and his dark, comedic story became a tragedy. Captain Hammer has been revealed as a vain fraud. Penny is dead. The end. Checking in on Dr. Horrible a year later to see him plotting to blow up Florida and having battles with goofy superheroes is only going to cheapen what came before.
