DOCTOR WHO to feature Claire Bloom as the Doctor's mother?

Friday, May 1, 2009

If the UK papers are to be believed, all of that "last of the Time Lords" stuff on Doctor Who is bunk, with the rumored return of the Rani and now word that we'll allegedly be seeing the last character we would've expected to turn up on the show - the Doctor's mother!

The UK's Daily Mail quotes Claire Bloom's managed Marion Rosenberg as saying that Bloom is confirmed for the role. "It is happening. They are filming at the moment. I have been organising her schedule."

The character will allegedly appear in David Tennant's last outing as the Doctor. There's no word on whether she would be a current character or seen in flashback. As odd as it seems to think of the Doctor having a family, he did have a granddaughter in the original series, and in the new series he has made passing references to having been a father. "Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
