T-600 PATROLS TORONTO SUBWAY: An enormous, moving T-600 robot from Terminator Salvation is now on display in a Toronto subway station, towering over commuters on their way to work. It's a clever PR move... But it would be even more clever if there was video of this thing somewhere. So far, all I can find are still photos.
LOST ISLAND MAPPED: The Lost castaways would be a lot less lost if the could only get their hands on the detailed island maps that fans have put together at the Lost Island Map blog. Based on maps glimpsed on the show and various clues in the dialog, various fan artists have put together maps showing exactly how far Hurley's makeshift golf course is from the Swan station, or where the Black Rock is in relation to the statue with four toes. When the Lost writers decide to do something like moving the island or introducing a second, smaller island we never knew about before, these people must go insane.
CRUMB'S ON YOUR SHOES: The LA Times reports that now that legendary underground cartoonist R. Crumb has finally completed that adaptation of Genesis, he has now turned his attentions to... a deal with Hi-Top sneakers? That's right, Hi-Top will distribute a new line featuring Crumb's shady old guru character, Mr. Natural. While some idealistic hippie types would see this as Crumb selling out, Mr. Natural has his usual mercenary attitude, with a cartoon speech bubble asking, "Who wants to go to heaven, anyway?"
HUNT FOR GOLLUM FAN FILM DEBUTS ONLINE, CRASHES SERVERS: The Hunt for Gollum, a fan film spun from events only mentioned in the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings books, premiered online over the weekend, and within hours the film's servers crashed when 250,000 fans logged on to see it. So far fan reaction has been very positive, which somewhat surprises the director, Chris Bouchard. Bouchard told Sci-fi Wire, "I was shocked, actually, because I was expecting a lot of (complaints) for interpretations. We thought maybe the actors, they've got a lot to live up against trying to play (roles played by) Ian McKellen and Viggo Mortensen. On the whole, the comments from people who've watched it so far have been really nice. We've definitely had some good nitpicks as well, but we're quite surprised they've been so nice."
