HELLBOY's Perlman says to expect a wait for HELLBOY III

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Hellboy star Ron Perlman says we should expect a wait for the third film in the series... If we ever see it all. (Click the image at left to buy Hellboy II on DVD.)

"No one knows," Perlman tells Bloody-Disgusting. "We know we have (director Guillermo del Toro) over in New Zealand working with Peter Jackson on two Hobbit movies. I, for one, wouldn't want to be involved in any more Hellboy movies unless he was involved in some measure, if he was at least overseeing what the third movie was going to look like. The studio doesn't talk to me or my people for that matter. I can't give you any updates."

Hellboy II was successful but not exactly a blockbuster, and Perlman suggests the film's chances for a sequel will depend on what happens after the studio adds up all the earnings from DVDs, cable rights, etc.

"I think that the dust is finally settling from Hellboy II now that the DVD has been released and its getting ready to do its cable run. I guess they'll just look at everything and decide. It would be a shame if we didn't do a third one because its so set up for it. Everything was building towards this culmination. But, you know, life takes some strange turns, my friend."

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
