The urban fairy doors of Ann Arbor

Monday, May 4, 2009

Urban-Fairies.com is... uh, perhaps not the kind of site you would expect with that URL. It's literally about city-dwelling little magic folk, specifically looking at the doors to their tiny but stylish homes inside and outside of cafes, bookstores, libraries and other establishments around Ann Arbor, Michigan. (I had no idea Michigan was such a hotbed of fairy activity!)

The door in the top photo is located outside the entrance of the Peaceable Kingdom gift store. It actually leads to the tiny store seen in the second picture, with shelves full of bird skulls, baby teeth and other fairy treasures. (When Peaceable Kingdom closes down for the night, the fairy folk even post a wee "Sorry, we're CLOSED" sign of their own!)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
