Burton's ALICE gallery is online, Johnny Depp looks horrifying

Monday, June 22, 2009

USA Today has published a selection of photos and concept art from Tim Burton's upcoming "re-imagining" of the Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland, and they're odd-looking even by the standard set by the man who gave us Beetlejuice. That's none other than Johnny Depp to the left over there, all but unrecognizable under a really disturbing makeup job that makes him look sort of like what would happen if Frodo Baggins and Carrot Top had a baby.

I wish I was more excited about this movie. But after Burton hurled feces at the original Planet of the Apes and released a toxic Willy Wonka to an unsuspecting public, the phrase "a Tim Burton re-imagining" makes me shudder with dread. Still, this is the Beetlejuice and Nightmare Before Christmas guy. And the concept art does look fantastic. Go ahead, click on over there, and see.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
