NEWSCHUNKS for 06.19.09

Today we're mostly debunking previous news announcements.
..

LABEOUF PREMATURE ON INDY 5 ANNOUNCEMENT:
Although Shia Labeouf recently announced that Steven Spielberg had "cracked" the story for a fourth Indiana Jones picture, producer Frank Marshall has now posted a tweet on his Twitter account to say that Indy 5's story is still un-cracked. "The story for Indy5 is progressing. It is still in the research phase." WEAVING NOT SIGNED FOR THE HOBBIT:
While director Guillermo del Toro recently told BBC radio that Lord of the Rings stars Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis will all be back for the Hobbit prequel movie, Weaving tells Moviehole that he hasn't even been approached yet. "I knew that if and when it happened I’d get a call and we’d chat about it, but I haven’t spoken to anyone about it. Someone said to me ‘I hear you’re doing the Hobbit?’ I said ‘Well, um, probably’, they said “No, no. you’ve signed on’. I haven’t actually talked to anyone about it. Doesn’t mean I won’t be doing it, [I’m] just not onboard yet."

KELLY RETURNING FOR DARKO 3?: Bloody Disgusting is reporting a rumor that Fox is planning a third Donnie Darko movie, and Richard Kelly (director of the original film) could return to direct the sequel. This sounds extremely unlikely, but we'll see what happens.

TEEN WOLF TO HOWL AGAIN?: Another Moviehole scoop, reporting that Warner Brothers is planning to remake the 1985 werewolf comedy. The article is a bit of a ramble, but it sounds like the studio is undecided about whether to start from scratch or directly connect it to the original film somehow. (The article suggests Son of Teen Wolf, but somehow I suspect Michael J. Fox has other things to do.)

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
