Will Riker stars in an infomercial

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

The sound and video quality on this clip are sub-par at best, but it's worth sitting through for some serious mid-'90s Star Trek weirdness. It's a 6-minute software infomercial starring The Next Generation's Johnathan Frakes as Commander Will Riker. An office drone named Harold is stressed out over his job, when Riker appears on his computer monitor, direct from the (strangely empty) bridge of the Enterprise-D. Riker is Harold's secret pal - nobody but Harold can see him - and Number One is sending a message all the way from the 23rd century to help Harold use Enterprise Automation to save the company millions. Live long and profit!

Clearly, Harold has worked a little too hard and the stress has caused him to lose his mind.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
