JURASSIC 4, NEVERENDING remake look iffy

Speaking with I09, producer Frank Marshall said that the long-in-development Jurassic Park sequel was in limbo. (Click the image at left to buy Jurassic Park Adventure Pack (Jurassic Park/ The Lost World: Jurassic Park/ Jurassic Park III)

"We'll have to see if they can come up with a story," Marshall said. "We don't have a story yet."

Later, he candidly told the site that Jurassic Park 4 was a "back burner" project, before admitting it was a "long shot." Too bad. While the second and third films had their problems, it's been a pretty good franchise all in all and I'd like to make at least one more visit to Jurassic Park. (Fun fact: The original film was 16 years ago. The kids in that movie are probably pushing 30, now. You are old. Actually, this fun fact turned out to be kind of depressing, really.)

Marshall also said that the proposed NeverEnding Story remake was being held up by some complicated rights issues.

"We love the book," he said. "We've always thought there was an opportunity there to tell a lot of elements that were in the book that weren't in the [original] movie. It's another one where we are still working on the rights. Once we get that, we'll bring on a writer. But it's off in the distance, but it's a great story."

Personally I feel no pressing need to see the charmingly cheesy NeverEnding Story redone with a lot of state-of-the-art CGI. It was really good for what it was: a very '80s fantasy movie for kids. That crazy dog-dragon puppet thing doesn't need to be "re-imagined." (Still, if you just can't bear the idea of never returning to the land of Fantasia, there are apparently a couple of sequels and cartoons and even a TV series I never even heard of. So get clicking with those Amazon links, and have yourself the most dorky weekend marathon ever.)

Along with the remake of the film, I am looking for a producer for The Neverending Story on stage at Javits Convention Center in New York City. Both an opera and ballet score have been composed by Siegfried Matthus. Please refer to my website for more details by following the link below.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
