Futuristic movie timeline

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Courtesy DanMeth.com, here is a handy chart showing the timelines for various sci-fi movies, in chronological order. It's kind of amusing to imagine that all these movies are set in the same sci-fi universe - so that, for instance, by 2173 the world has become the sterile utopia of Sleeper, and then by 2199 the Matrix machines have taken over and they're using humans for batteries, and then by 2220 we've sorted all that out and we're exploring the galaxy in our Forbidden Planet flying saucers. It makes it seem like we're just constantly building up grand civilizations only to then watch them crumble to ruin... Which, come to think of it, isn't that far from how human history has worked so far.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
