TORCHWOOD could last 10 seasons, Davies says

Speaking with the UK press on Friday, Torchwood creator and executive producer Russell T. Davies said that a fourth season of the show depends on how the upcoming mini-series (Torchwood: Children of Earth - click the image at left to buy it on DVD) is received in England and on BBC America. Given that Torchwood is an international hit and often out-performs its parent series Doctor Who on BBC America, it seems fairly certain the show will return.

Davies also said he'd be willing to stick with the show for 10 years, so long as the fans want more. This is a bit surprising, given that Davies recently left Doctor Who saying that he wanted to do some non-genre projects.

While the original Doctor Who ran for decades and the new version has been popular enough that it might well do the same, Torchwood doesn't seem like a series designed to run indefinitely. They would almost certainly have to write out Jack Harkness, or at least find some way to explain why his super-slow aging had suddenly accelerated to a normal human pace. (Then again, perhaps it won't be a problem... Given John Borrowman's enthusiasm for botox.)
