WATCHMEN gender-bender porn

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

I was pleased to see that my post on the Watchwomen "burlesque tribute" to Watchmen ended up traveling pretty far across the net, turning up on I09, Metafilter and other cool places. But when I posted it, I naively assumed that was as crazy as Watchmen erotica got. After all, this is freakin' Watchmen we're talking about. (Click the image at left to buy Dave Gibbons' book, Watching the Watchmen.)

Well, I forgot about Rule 34 of the Internet: If it exists, there is porn of it. Really weird porn.

Who Watches Rule 63? is a LiveJournal community where people post their own stories about the characters of Watchmen getting it on. Only, the genders are all mixed up. You see, Rule 63 of the Internet is apparently that if a male character exists, somebody somewhere has created a female version. And so Dan Drieberg becomes Danielle Dreiberg, Adrian Veidt becomes Adrienne Veidt, Dr. Manhattan becomes... Well, still Dr. Manhattan presumably, but with boobs. (Needless to say, Who Watches Rule 63? is full of NSFW language.)

Look, I'm one of those far-lefty types who believes that people can get off on whatever they like, so long as they're not hurting anybody and no livestock is involved. I'm not opposed to smutty fan fiction in principle. You wanna write about Giles shagging Buffy? Well, knock yourself out. Just don't ask me to read it. If you wanna change boy characters into girl characters, hey, whatever. Change Dana Scully and Fox Mulder into Dan Scully and... Uh, lady-Fox Mulder. (How do you feminize a name like Fox? Foxxessa? Foxita? Foxerina?) I don't care. You can write freaky porn about Kirk and Spock as lesbian centaurs if you want, it ain't none of my lookout.

But, really. Gender-bending Watchmen porn? Come on, we have to draw the line someplace, people. When you're getting yourself hot writing porn about Danielle Dreiberg and Rorschachia fumbling with each other's utility belts in the owlship, it's time to go to turn off the computer and go on a date with an actual person. Please.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
