DOCTOR PARNASSUS backstage footage

Monday, June 1, 2009

The French site Toutlecine.com has posted a few minutes of tasty backstage footage from Terry Gilliam's upcoming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. We get a quick glimpse of an almost unrecognizable Tom Waits as the film's devil (he's the gaunt fellow with the crazy ears,) but no Heath Ledger. (Ledger died during filming, and Gilliam came up with the clever idea of making Ledger's character a shapeshifter, with his role being taken over for parts of the film by stars like Jude Law and Johnny Depp.)

The more I see of this movie, the more promising it looks. Here's hoping it gets an American distribution deal soon.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
