SUPERNATURAL to get a 6th season?

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

While it's been widely reported that the upcoming season five would be Supernatural's last, the Coventry Telegraph is reporting that it ain't necessarily so. (Click the image at left to buy Supernatural: The Complete Fourth Season.)

Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles (who both just happen to possess really amazing, almost Tolkienesque names) have made it clear they're ready to move on after the upcoming season. But the Telegraph reports that when Padalecki was asked about his plans after Supernatural season five, he answered: "Supernatural six. My best guess is that Supernatural will go beyond season five."

Telegraph writer Morag Cuddeford-Jones (seriously, what's with all the crazy names in this story?) asked Ackles if he planned to stick around for season six, and the actor responded, "I have to. I have a six-year contract."

Cuddeford-Jones takes this to mean that a sixth season is already a lock, but it's likely Ackles just meant that his contract calls for him to stick with the show for a sixth season if it happens.

"(Series creator Eric Kripke) does only have a five-year contract for Supernatural and the studio doesn't have to carry it on for six seasons (...) Season four has had the best viewing figures we've ever seen and it just seems to be on an upward curve so the studio's really keen to see more."

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
