The Romulans in Abarams' TREK were played by Wesley Crusher

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Wil Wheaton, the former teen star perhaps best known for the role of Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, has now revealed that he played a secret role in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot. Actually, Wheaton played a number of roles: he voiced all of the Romulans on Nero's ship.

I met JJ at an ADR stage a few days later, where he told me the entire plot of the movie (and, for the record, hearing JJ Freakin' Abrams tell you the plot of his Star Trek is even more awesome than you'd expect) and showed me some of the scenes that I'd be dubbing. I ended up providing voices for all the Romulans on Nero's ship, including the guy who tells him that "it's time" at the very beginning of the movie. (Yeah, how cool is that?)

Readers of Wheaton's popular blog know that he is major Trekkie himself who has not always been well-served by the fanchise, so it's vicariously satisfying to see him finally get a little Trek love after a couple of decades of him having to put up with all those fan jokes about Worf blasting Wesley out of an airlock.

About This Blog

"Science fiction plucks from within us our deepest fears and hopes, then shows them to us in rough disguise: the monster and the rocket." - W.H. Auden

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
