Will SUPERNATURAL's fifth season be its last?

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Supernatural creator Eric Kripke says that while the CW would probably be happy to keep the spooky hit going for several more seasons, he has no plans to stick with it beyond the upcoming fifth season.

"Despite what the network and studio may or may not want, I don't have more than five seasons of a story," Kripke says. "I would be willing to make sure there are enough villains and heroes around to continue a new story, but there's no way I'm doing Season 6."

While his comments seem to suggest the show could continue with a new creative team in charge, the show's current stars also aren't too interested in sticking around. Jensen Ackles commented on the rigors of shooting in Vancouver, British Columbia

"We don't live at home," said Ackles. "We don't sleep in our own beds. Our families aren't here. Our friends aren't here. Our girlfriends aren't here. To do it for another five years, I don't know if I could handle it."

His co-star, Jared Padalecki, expressed the desire to go out while the show is still fresh.

"I don't want to be cheese, and here's Sam and Dean at age 50 sitting in wheelchairs," Padalecki said. "I'd rather leave (fans) wanting more than get to the point where they boo you off stage."

Who is he, this one who is called "Greg Stacy"?

Greg Stacy began the MONSTERS AND ROCKETS blog in April of 2009. Prior to that, he was editor of the popular sci-fi/horror news website DARKWOLDS.COM. He has also written for LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY, UTNE READER and LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT. He always feels weird writing about himself in the third person.
